Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have apprehended a 30-year-old software engineer for allegedly operating a fake Instagram account. This fictitious profile was reportedly used to post abusive, defamatory, and sexually explicit comments targeting a woman who is a politically exposed person. The alleged goal was to damage her reputation and cause public humiliation.

The case was registered after the complainant reported objectionable comments posted in October 2025 on a video that had circulated on social media. Investigators utilized digital forensics to trace the perpetrator's online activities, leading to their arrest in Hyderabad. A mobile phone was seized for examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are reminding the public that anonymity on social media does not shield offenders from legal consequences. They advise victims of online harassment to preserve evidence, such as screenshots and URLs, before blocking accounts.
