On November 4th, 2025, playback singer and voice artiste Chinmayi Sripaada filed a complaint with the Hyderabad cybercrime police, alleging persistent online harassment and misogynistic abuse directed at her and her children. The harassment began after Chinmayi's husband, Rahul Ravindran, commented that it was Chinmayi's choice whether or not to wear the 'mangalsutra'.
In response, Chinmayi faced a barrage of derogatory and personal attacks during an online discussion on X Spaces. A social media user named Yashaswini P first highlighted the incident, revealing the nasty remarks made by participants and urging Chinmayi to take legal action.
Frustrated by the repeated abuse, Chinmayi took to Twitter, tagging the Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, and expressed her exasperation, stating she was "sick and tired of this everyday abuse" and called for police intervention. She also noted that the abusers were "basically saying my kids should die" and confirmed she was ready to file a formal complaint.
Responding promptly, commissioner Sajjanar directed the cybercrime police to investigate the matter and take necessary legal action against those responsible for the online abuse. Chinmayi has since proceeded with filing the complaint, and the FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the IT Act and the BNS Act.
