A sub-inspector (SI) from Hyderabad police is facing charges after a video surfaced showing him permitting his young granddaughter to drive a car. The incident, which took place on the Gandhamguda-Bairagiguda road, was captured on video and subsequently spread widely on social media.
Narsingi police initiated a probe after the footage gained traction online. They identified the SI as Pujari Thirupathi and registered a case against him. The charges include violations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life or personal safety of others, and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The SI was located using the car's registration number.
The viral video depicts the SI in the passenger seat while the child is in the driver's position. Confronted by motorists, the SI argued that he was in control of the automatic vehicle. The confrontation caused a traffic disruption, after which the SI moved to the driver's seat. Cyberabad police confirmed they were verifying the video before taking formal action.
