In a disturbing incident at Kompally Government High School in Hyderabad, a Class 7 student, Phanindra Surya, was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment. The principal, Krishna, reportedly mobilized nine 10th-grade students to strike Surya with a stick. This action followed an accusation by a teacher who mistook Surya for someone tampering with bicycles.
The dispute allegedly began over missing bicycle parts and deflated tires at the school's cycle stand. After being apprehended and taken to the headmaster's office, Surya endured the physical punishment, which left him in severe pain. His father, Shiva Ramakrishna, discovered the injuries and immediately sought medical attention for his son.
A case has been registered by the police under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Advocacy groups have condemned the incident as a violation of student rights. Parents and activists are demanding the suspension of the principal from his dual roles as Headmaster and Mandal Education Officer.
