Hyderabad Food Police Raid: Adulteration Bust!
22 Mar
Summary
- Hyderabad launched H-FAST to combat food adulteration.
- Fake paneer, ghee, and spices are common adulterants.
- Public can report food safety issues via toll-free number.

Last week, Hyderabad authorities introduced the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), a new initiative aimed at tackling rampant food adulteration. This dedicated, intelligence-driven unit will conduct surprise inspections of food manufacturing facilities, restaurants, and eateries throughout the city. Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar will oversee H-FAST's operations.
The establishment of H-FAST follows a recent increase in the discovery of counterfeit food products, including fake ginger-garlic paste, adulterated paneer, ghee, and kova, as well as spices made from synthetic materials. These illicit products, often produced in unhygienic conditions, pose a significant risk to public health.
Initially comprising 28 members, H-FAST, led by G Vaibhav Raghunath, will focus on surveillance, detection, and prosecution. The team will collaborate closely with Food Safety Officers to enforce regulations stringently. A zero-tolerance policy will be adopted, ensuring serious legal action against offenders.
Citizens are encouraged to report any instances of food adulteration or unsafe practices by calling a dedicated toll-free number, 8712661212. Public participation is key to H-FAST's success in ensuring food safety across Hyderabad.
