On October 28, 2025, a 35-year-old labourer from Delhi named Ashok Ahirwar tragically took his own life in Sugira village, Mahoba district, after discovering that his wife Pooja had eloped with his 22-year-old nephew Jaychand.
Pooja, who had been married to Ashok for around 12 years, left their home on October 28th with their three daughters, claiming she was visiting a nearby village. Instead, she fled with Jaychand, with whom she had reportedly been having an illicit relationship. The two had grown close during Jaychand's visits to the family's home in Delhi, where they both worked as labourers.
When Pooja failed to return, a distraught Ashok travelled from Delhi to Sugira village in search of his wife and daughters, but found no trace of them. Devastated by his wife's betrayal, Ashok took his own life by hanging himself with his wife's saree. The tragic incident has shocked the village and thrown Ashok's family into turmoil.
The police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by Ashok's brother Raju, and the investigation into the actual reasons behind the suicide is ongoing. Ashok's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
