Summary
- Husband sentenced to life imprisonment for suffocating his wife.
- Medical evidence confirmed death by suffocation, ruling out suicide.
- Court acquitted husband of dowry charges due to lack of proof.

An additional district and sessions court in Ghaziabad has delivered a life sentence to Rahul, a resident of Madhuban Bapudham, for the murder of his wife, Jyoti. The court found Rahul guilty of suffocating his wife, a crime established through compelling medical evidence that indicated deliberate obstruction of her airways.
The case originated from an FIR filed on June 12, 2020, after Jyoti's death. Her cousin had alleged dowry harassment and torture leading to her demise. However, the court noted that the prosecution failed to substantiate claims of dowry demand preceding the incident.
Medical testimony confirmed death by asphyxiation, making suicide an impossibility. Although acquitted of dowry-related charges, Rahul was convicted of murder under Section 302 of the IPC and causing hurt under Section 323, receiving a Rs 11,000 fine alongside his life sentence.
