The case began when Asha Devi, Khalid's sister-in-law, filed an FIR on February 2, 2022. She reported regular fights between Khalid and her sister, Ashmin, and a pending harassment case against Khalid. Ashmin had informed Asha about a fight on January 30.
Upon visiting their Noida apartment on February 1, 2022, Asha discovered Ashmin's body wrapped in a quilt, with a head wound. Medical evidence indicated the death occurred one to two days prior to the post-mortem examination, caused by a blow to the head.
The murder weapon, a concrete brick, was found at Khalid's indication and tested positive for human blood. The court noted Khalid's unexplained absence on January 31, 2022, and his residency at the crime scene, concluding that guilt pointed to him.
