Summary
- 20-year-old woman's death initially reported as suicide
- Husband Deewana confessed to strangling her after a quarrel
- Victim Kanta was harassed for dowry since her marriage 2 years ago

On September 24, 2025, a 20-year-old woman named Kanta was found dead in Sirsa's Boota Colony. While her death was initially reported as a suicide, a police investigation has now revealed that it was in fact a murder committed by her husband, Deewana.
According to the authorities, the forensics team found no evidence to support the family's claim that Kanta had hanged herself from a ceiling fan. During interrogation, Deewana confessed to strangling his wife in a fit of anger following a quarrel.
Kanta's father, Balwan, had lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter was harassed for dowry since her marriage two years ago. He claimed that Deewana, along with his mother Nomi Devi and sister Santosh, repeatedly taunted Kanta for not bringing enough money and valuables. Just a week before her death, Deewana had left Kanta at her parental home, saying he wanted to "get rid of her." On September 24, he returned to take her back, allegedly after demanding Rs 50,000 from Balwan, who managed to give him only Rs 10,000. Later that night, after another argument, Deewana strangled Kanta.
The police have stated that an investigation is ongoing, and action against the other accused family members is being considered.
