8 Dec
Summary
- Husband allegedly burned wife's hair for a male heir.
- Sorceress suggested ritual involved cutting hair and bloodshed.
- Police registered a case against husband and sorceress.

In a disturbing turn of events, a man in Vijayapura reportedly resorted to a horrific ritual, cutting his wife's hair and burning it in a graveyard, all at the behest of a sorceress. The alleged motive was the couple's desire for a male child after having three daughters. The wife detailed a year of harassment by her husband and in-laws over the matter.
The sorceress, identified as Mangala from Mulavad village, allegedly advised the husband that a devil needed to be removed by cutting the wife's hair and causing bloodshed on her scalp. The victim was subsequently hospitalized for the injury. This extreme act underscores the pressures and desperation faced by some families concerning gender preference.
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi confirmed that a case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both the husband and the sorceress have been produced in court, while the aged parents-in-law have been issued notices. Authorities plan to file a chargesheet against all four accused.
