On November 8th, 2025, a 26-year-old woman named Mehek tragically took her own life by hanging in Mumbai. Prior to her death, Mehek had recorded a video on her phone, tying a dupatta around her neck, and narrating the alleged abuse and dowry demands from her husband, Imran Shaikh.
Mehek sent the distressing video to her brother, who immediately forwarded it to their father. The father tried to call Mehek, but she still went through with the extreme step that night. Mehek's body was sent to JJ Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, Mehek's father lodged a police complaint against Imran Shaikh. The authorities arrested Imran on charges of abetment of suicide under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The couple had gotten married in 2018, and the tragic events unfolded just over a year ago from the current date.
