Joel Lake Bremer faces charges for the 1988 murder of his pregnant wife, Ronna Bremer, who was 22 years old at the time of her death. Bremer initially reported his wife missing in 1988 and was later divorced from her in 1990. The case saw a pivotal moment when a skull, sent anonymously to the Green County Sheriff's Office in 1991, was eventually identified as Ronna's through testing.
Despite multiple reopenings over the years, the investigation stalled due to a lack of evidence. However, in November 2024, detectives from the Christian County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from a documentary team, revisited the cold case. Their investigation led to a crucial DNA sample collected in 1989. Advanced technology allowed for the generation of a DNA profile that directly linked Joel Bremer to the crime.
Bremer was indicted on July 24 and apprehended by U.S. Marshals on July 31 before being extradited to Christian County. He is currently held on a $200,000 bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for August 3.
