Human Remains Found Near Missing Mom's Home

Human remains have been discovered in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Arizona. The Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed the find, which is approximately 15 miles from the residence of Nancy Guthrie.

As of February 18, 2026, authorities have stated there is no indication that the remains, appearing to have been at the location for a significant duration, are connected to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. The discovery was made on a hillside overlooking a highway in southwest Tucson.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson-area home on February 1, 2026. She was last seen on January 31, 2026, and is believed to have been kidnapped from her home in Arizona's Catalina Foothills, leaving behind her phone and essential medications.

Investigators have not yet identified a leading motive for the disappearance. In July 2025, approximately six months after Nancy Guthrie went missing, officials released details of a ransom note and a subsequent letter claiming her death, in an effort to generate new leads. Lab analyses on DNA from Guthrie's house are ongoing.
