Warner Bros. Television is developing a new series for Hulu based on the true crime podcast and book 'American Hustlers.' The series will focus on the downfall of the 'Gay Grifters' crime ring, notably Kaushal Niroula and Danny Garcia.
These con artists posed as art dealers and real estate developers, primarily engaging in financial scams. Their schemes escalated to violence with the December 2008 murder of Palm Springs art dealer Cliff Lambert.
The project is created by Jim Campolongo, drawing from Frequency Machine's podcast and Sherrie Lueder's book. The narrative follows Niroula and Garcia's group of con artists and the efforts of citizen detective Tyson Wrensch to bring them to justice.
Wrensch's own experience with Garcia, who attempted to steal his money, fueled his dedication to exposing the Grifters. He has shared his story on platforms like 'Dateline' and at Variety's True Crime Summit. The legal pursuit of Niroula and Garcia was complex, with their initial convictions overturned in 2020, leading to a retrial in 2023.
