Travel Guru Fatally Shot During Houston Carjacking

Marietta Allison, a 61-year-old travel company co-founder, was tragically killed late Friday night in Houston's Heights neighborhood. Allison had just dropped off a friend at a hospital and was searching for parking when a carjacker, identified as 18-year-old Darius DeWayne Hall, confronted her. Prosecutors state Hall attempted to steal Allison's purse, resorting to gunfire when she resisted, striking her once. She was later pronounced deceased at a hospital.

Hall fled the scene in Allison's friend's car, leading to a police pursuit that concluded with a crash. A standoff ensued at a nearby apartment complex, eventually resulting in Hall's capture. He faces charges including capital murder, tampering with evidence, and evading arrest. Court records indicate Hall was already under supervision for prior charges, including aggravated robbery and assault.

Allison was known for her generosity and dedication to friends, having recently cut short an international trip to support her friend undergoing chemotherapy. Her husband and loved ones have expressed profound grief, remembering her as a radiant presence whose compassion touched many lives. A March 23 hearing is scheduled to consider bail for Hall.
