25 Jan
Summary
- Housekeeper fears attacker's release from mental health unit.
- Victim suffered 42 stab wounds in a paranoid psychotic episode.
- Family refuses compensation despite victim's severe injuries.

A housekeeper who survived being stabbed 42 times by her employer's son is living in terror following news of his potential release from a secure mental health facility. Joselia Pereira Do Nascimento was attacked in February 2024 by Maximillian Bourne, 26, while alone in her employers' Chelsea townhouse. Bourne, who experienced a paranoid psychotic episode during the assault, was deemed unfit to stand trial and detained indefinitely.
Less than two years after the brutal attack, Ms. Nascimento, 31, learned that the hospital holding Bourne had applied for him to have escorted leave. This news has triggered intense fear and flashbacks for Ms. Nascimento, who still suffers from significant physical pain and psychological trauma. She believes justice has not been served, especially as her wealthy employers have refused to offer compensation for her life-altering injuries.
Ms. Nascimento, originally from Brazil, was working as a live-in employee for property developer Graham Bourne and his wife Sylvia. The Home Office later identified her as a victim of modern slavery. The attack occurred on February 25, 2024, when Bourne forced his way into her room and stabbed her repeatedly. Despite her severe injuries, including damage to her lungs and eye socket, and a civil claim for damages, the Bournes have offered no support or compensation, leaving Ms. Nascimento feeling that her suffering is disregarded.
