Ariana Rose, a 40-year-old con artist, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a decade-long campaign of dishonest behaviour. Posing as a house sitter through platforms like Trusted Housesitters, she stole valuables, including a £15,000 tennis bracelet and 27 years of Christmas ornaments, from unsuspecting homeowners across the country. Rose targeted properties suggesting wealth, pocketing items worth an estimated £35,000 between July and October.
Her crimes also included defrauding prospective tenants and illegally subletting properties, accumulating significant rental arrears. Rose was previously jailed for fraud in 2008 and again in 2011. A judge noted the considerable impact and distress her actions caused to victims. In addition to her prison sentence, Rose was ordered to pay over £65,692 in compensation.
