An investigation is underway by Vishrantwadi police after a disgruntled employee allegedly tampered with the Yerawada Regional Mental Hospital's online system. This malicious act, reportedly carried out in February 2024, resulted in nine hospital staffers, including clerks and nurses, being incorrectly marked as terminated. Consequently, these employees did not receive their salaries for a period of three months.
The incident came to light several months after the initial data alteration. Despite the event occurring in February 2024, it took approximately two years to identify the individual responsible. The suspect allegedly utilized their cellphone and the hospital's official Wi-Fi connection to access and modify the internal system, thereby impacting the payroll of the affected employees.
An office superintendent from the hospital lodged a formal complaint with the Vishrantwadi police. Authorities informed the state government treasury officials in Mumbai about the salary discrepancies. Investigations confirmed that the online system indeed showed the employees' services as terminated, preventing salary disbursement. Pune cyber police confirmed an unhappy employee was behind the data changes.
