- A six-year-old girl died from falling off a horse.
- The handler lacked a license and safety gear for the ride.

A sessions court in Mumbai has sentenced a horse handler to two years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the 2017 death of a six-year-old girl. Janhavi Mistry tragically lost her life after falling from a horse during a joyride in South Mumbai. The court convicted the horse handler, Sohan Jaiswal, under Indian Penal Code section 304-II for culpable homicide. Prosecutors highlighted that Jaiswal operated without a license and failed to provide essential safety gear to the young rider.
The defense argued that road conditions, specifically potholes, caused the horse to trip and that horses are not entirely controllable. However, the court found Jaiswal guilty. The incident occurred when the girl was thrown from the horse and fell between its legs, sustaining severe injuries that proved fatal.
