In Ahmedabad, a shocking case of alleged honor killing has come to light, involving the death of 22-year-old Sofia Farooq from Sarkhej. Her father, Mohammed Farooq Nawabkhan (56), and brother, Habil Farooq (38), are accused of her murder. The incident allegedly occurred around three months after a video of Sofia with a male friend went viral.
The accused reportedly took Sofia to an isolated area near Gheljipura and attacked her with a hammer. To conceal their crime, they then staged the scene to resemble a road accident, claiming an unidentified vehicle had hit Sofia while she was riding pillion with Habil on August 12. Sofia, who worked as a hospital receptionist, suffered severe head and leg injuries and was declared dead the following day.
Police investigation revealed the fabricated nature of the accident narrative. They discovered that the father and brother had developed a grievance against Sofia after the video circulated. Motivated by a desire to uphold the family's reputation within their community, they allegedly planned and executed her murder. Following the fatal blows, they transported her to a public road to create the illusion of a hit-and-run incident.
A case has been registered against the father and son for murder. The incident underscores the tragic consequences of perceived violations of family honor in some communities.
