ECR Fortifies Security for Massive Holi Travel Surge
17 Feb
Summary
- ECR enhances security measures to manage 15-20 lakh additional passengers.
- RPF and GRP to collaborate on 24/7 security and train escorts.
- Special focus on vulnerable areas, random frisking, and QRT deployment.

In preparation for a substantial increase in travelers during the upcoming Holi festivities, the East Central Railway (ECR) has intensified its security protocols. Authorities anticipate an additional 15 to 20 lakh passengers within Bihar, necessitating robust crowd management and safety measures.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is leading efforts to regulate passenger flow, particularly at busy hubs like Patna Junction, by establishing designated holding areas to prevent overcrowding. This initiative aims to ensure a smoother travel experience for the surge of passengers.
To reinforce safety, the RPF will work in tandem with the Government Railway Police (GRP). This collaboration includes providing continuous security coverage at sensitive locations and escorting passenger trains that pass through high-risk territories, ensuring swift responses to any incidents.
Enhanced vigilance will be maintained at critical station areas, including ticket booking counters, waiting halls, and concourses, which are prone to congestion. Random frisking will also be conducted at these high-traffic zones to mitigate potential security threats.
Furthermore, quick response teams (QRTs) are stationed to address unforeseen emergencies promptly. Anti-sabotage teams will inspect train rakes, while plainclothes intelligence teams will monitor crowds to curb petty crimes like pilferage and pickpocketing. A dedicated focus on women's safety includes 24x7 RPF assistance booths.
