Tragedy struck on Thursday in Chandigarh's Sector 38 when Taniya, a promising 21-year-old state-level hockey player, was fatally stabbed. The alleged perpetrators are her own relatives, with the motive identified as a deep-seated property dispute within the family. Taniya's father reported that his sister's family and his own had been in conflict over the shared property for an extended period.
The fatal altercation occurred on Thursday afternoon. Following a verbal argument, Taniya was reportedly attacked on the staircase by her cousin Krishna, along with several other relatives. During the scuffle, Krishna is accused of stabbing Taniya near her waist with a knife. She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Law enforcement from Sector 39 responded swiftly to the scene and have registered a murder case based on the father's complaint. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the accused individuals. Taniya's body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and her family awaits the autopsy results to proceed with her final rites. She was scheduled to play in a state-level match on Friday.
