Custodial Death Sparks Murder Probe in Hisar
22 Dec
Summary
- A murder case was registered after a man's body was found in a police lockup.
- The deceased suffered 22 injuries, with the cause of death attributed to pre-mortem trauma.
- The victim's son disputes the judicial inquiry, demanding action against police personnel.

Hisar police have initiated a murder investigation concerning the death of Sanjay Kantiwal, a 48-year-old man found deceased in the Mangali police outpost lockup. The FIR was filed following a judicial inquiry report approximately five months after the incident. Kantiwal was taken into custody on the night of July 22 and discovered dead the following morning.
The post-mortem examination revealed 22 injuries on Kantiwal's body, with one injury being older and the remaining inflicted within 12 hours of death. The report cited pre-mortem injuries as the cause of death. Kantiwal's son has contested the judicial inquiry's findings, alleging that it did not assign responsibility for murder and demanding action against specific police officers.
Villagers had previously protested, alleging police brutality, which led to the judicial inquiry. The son argues that the number and nature of injuries, especially on the head, would have prevented his father from sleeping, contradicting a witness statement. He questions why injuries were not noted upon his father's admission to the lockup.
