More than 50 people, primarily teenagers, have been criminally charged following a significant disturbance at Hersheypark on April 3. This occurred on the park's opening day for its 120th season. The Derry Township Police Department conducted an extensive investigation into the "disorderly and assaultive behavior by numerous youths."
Charges filed against the individuals, aged 12 to 19, include simple assault, conspiracy, theft, and rioting. Three adults, all 18 or 19 years old and from Harrisburg, were also charged. Police responded around 7 p.m. to assist park security amid reports of fights between groups of teenagers.
In the wake of the incident, Hersheypark has introduced new security protocols. Guests exiting the park must now undergo a digital photo verification process to re-enter, ensuring their identity is matched. This measure is part of the park's zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behavior.
