A man who styled himself as a divine healer, popularly known as 'Talwar Baba,' has been formally charged under Maharashtra's anti-superstition law. The accused, Dnyaneshwar Nagorao Karde, was brought to light by anti-superstition activists in Badur village, Nanded. He is alleged to have practiced black magic and defrauded individuals by claiming supernatural abilities.
For approximately four years, Karde reportedly conducted gatherings, offering 'enchanted lemons' and other supposed cures in exchange for money or valuables. His moniker 'Talwar Baba' originated from a sword he kept during these sessions. Two associates, Shivkant Shivram Mailare and Nabaji Baba Waghekar, were arrested for allegedly disrupting police work and destroying a written complaint at the Biloli police station.
The first case against Karde was registered on March 29 under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act. A second First Information Report was filed against Karde and his associates for obstructing police duty. Following their arrest and production in court on March 30, all three were granted bail. Authorities have stated that a chargesheet is forthcoming.
