Brave Cop Dies Chasing Assailant in Hospital

A woman head constable, M Kannagi, collapsed and died on Monday while pursuing a 25-year-old man. The incident unfolded at the emergency ward of Paramakudi government hospital when Kannagi witnessed an assault. She attempted to apprehend the assailant, who then fled. Kannagi pursued him for approximately 50 meters before he escaped.
Following the chase, Kannagi returned to the emergency ward and subsequently fainted. Despite immediate medical attention and resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced deceased. Paramakudi Town police initiated a search and arrested the suspect, identified as Karuvayan alias Karuppuraja, on Tuesday morning.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay expressed his condolences and announced Rs30 lakh in financial assistance for the family of the deceased head constable.
