On 2025-10-12, the Hazaribag jail superintendent, Jeetendra Kumar Singh, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. According to the police, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) had questioned Singh on 2025-10-11 regarding financial irregularities in the jail. The following day, Singh left the premises by car without informing the authorities, and his mobile phone has since been switched off.
An FIR has been filed by the in-charge of the Hazaribag Central Jail, Uday Kumar, regarding Singh's disappearance. The officer in-charge of the Lohsinghna police station, Nishant Kerketta, stated that they have conducted raids across the state but have been unable to locate the missing jail superintendent.
In the meantime, the deputy election officer, Mahdev, has been appointed as the acting jail superintendent to oversee the day-to-day administration of the facility. The investigation into Singh's disappearance and the alleged financial irregularities is ongoing.
