A young woman's death in Farrukhnagar has sparked a dowry death case, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws. The family asserts she was assaulted and strangled, presenting evidence of neck marks and a struggle. However, the in-laws claim she died by consuming poison.
The deceased's father reported that his daughter, Bhavna, married Gautam Sharma in December 2023. The family alleges persistent dowry harassment, including a demand for Rs 25 lakh, of which Rs 2.5 lakh was reportedly paid. Bhavna had been living with her parents for five months due to the alleged abuse before returning to her husband.
Family members reported speaking to Bhavna shortly before her death, with her expressing that she was being beaten and strangled. They claim their inquiries were met with denials and later assurances that no issues existed.
Police have registered a case under sections related to dowry death and cruelty. The family has accused the police of delay and inaction, and of misleading them into signing documents asserting a poison-related death. The Station House Officer has denied these allegations, assuring a fair probe and stating that the autopsy report will determine the cause of death.
