Gurgaon Cop Suspended Over Unidentified Body Cremation
8 Oct
Summary
- SHO suspended for mishandling an unidentified body.
- Body cremated without proper identification procedures.
- Police internal review cited negligence in case handling.
Gurgaon police have suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) of Badshapur police station, Rajesh Kumar, over the improper handling of an unidentified body. The deceased, identified as 31-year-old Yuvraj Manchanda from Delhi, was found in a water-filled pit on September 10 and cremated on September 14 without being identified.
Sources indicate the suspension is linked to procedural negligence in identifying and disposing of the body. A departmental inquiry was initiated, leading to the action. Inspector Manoj Kumar has taken over as the new SHO. ASI Sahun Khan, the case's investigating officer, had previously been suspended following an internal review.
The Haryana DGP acknowledged procedural lapses, stating that while the body was cremated within the three-day SOP for unidentified remains, certain lapses occurred. These issues have been brought to the court's attention. A compliance report to a Delhi court revealed significant discrepancies, including a delay in uploading Manchanda's details to a missing persons database and conflicting autopsy findings with Delhi Police's murder investigation.
