In Gurgaon, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against a Station House Officer (SHO) for an alleged delay in registering a First Information Report (FIR). The inquiry concerns a road rage incident that occurred a month prior to the FIR's registration on September 22. A 28-year-old woman, Khushboo Verma, reported that on August 27, an SUV driver allegedly hit her car, smashed its headlight with an iron rod, and then fled after an altercation.
Verma and her mother, Pooja Verma, alleged that despite submitting a complaint on the night of the incident and providing dashcam footage, the FIR was not registered promptly. They reported being told the investigating officer was on leave and later that the driver could not be traced due to temporary registration plates. Action was taken only after the family approached senior police officials.
Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj stated that two special teams are now active in tracing accused individuals involved in road rage incidents. He affirmed that the SHO's DE is to investigate potential negligence in handling the complaint. The accused, identified as Swayam from Delhi, was reportedly undergoing dengue treatment at a private hospital and was to be arrested post-discharge. He has been booked under relevant sections of the new penal code.
