A shocking incident unfolded in Gurgaon's Sector 5 on Wednesday morning when an intoxicated driver, identified as Dhruv Wadhwa, allegedly sped through a residential lane, fatally running over a dog multiple times. The car, a Hyundai Verna, was reportedly driven at a high speed, leading to the animal's immediate death. Residents who witnessed the incident and attempted to intervene were met with aggression and misbehavior from the accused driver.
Following the incident, local residents lodged a formal complaint with the Sector 5 police station. A police team promptly arrived at the scene, secured the dog's carcass, and sent it for an autopsy at Kadarpur Animal Hospital. The autopsy report later confirmed that the dog had succumbed to accident-related injuries. The medical examination of the accused driver also confirmed the presence of alcohol in his system.
Based on the resident's complaint, the autopsy findings, and medical evidence, the police have registered an FIR. The charges include sections related to rash driving and killing an animal under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as driving by a drunken person under the Motor Vehicles Act. The complaint also mentioned previous reckless driving incidents by the accused, raising further concerns among the neighborhood residents.
