Gunfire Disrupts Diwali Puja Celebration, Three Injured in Dhanbad

On Diwali night, 2025-10-21, tension erupted in Kharkabad under Govindpur police station area of Dhanbad as a former Zila Parishad member, Abdul Mannan, along with his son Abdul Ruman and brother-in-law Musharraf Alam alias Sheru, allegedly attempted to disrupt the Kali Puja celebrations.
According to local residents and Puja committee members, Mannan, his son, and Sheru were seen roaming near the puja venue with firearms. When the locals protested, an altercation broke out between the two sides. During the scuffle, Musharraf Alam alias Sheru reportedly opened fire in the air, discharging three rounds. The sudden gunfire caused a stampede-like situation at the puja site, where a large number of women and children were present.
Three people sustained injuries, two with minor wounds and one seriously hurt. The injured were immediately rushed to SNMCH Hospital, Dhanbad, for treatment. Puja committee president Gopinath Kumbhakar stated that Mannan had been arguing with the committee members and villagers, but the situation seemed under control until the shots were fired.
On receiving information, Govindpur police reached the spot and arrested Abdul Mannan, while also seizing the firearm used in the incident. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether the seized gun is licensed or illegal and to verify the cause of the injuries.
