In a significant crackdown, Gujarat authorities have seized suspicious medicines valued at over ₹1.21 crore. The Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) conducted raids across Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Bharuch, targeting pharmaceutical firms suspected of illegal activities. The state government has declared a firm 'zero tolerance' policy against the sale of fake, substandard, and intoxicating medicines, prioritizing public health.
Investigations revealed irregularities in the sale of GLP-1 weight loss drugs, including the 'Mounjaro' injection, which was illegally marketed online in Vadodara without prescriptions. Additionally, large quantities of codeine-containing syrups and other habit-forming drugs were discovered in Ahmedabad, leading to the prohibition of sales for drugs worth over ₹76.51 lakh.
Further actions included the permanent cancellation of a Vadodara firm's license for illegally selling 'MOUNJARO KWIKPEN' injections online. Several other firms are under investigation for manufacturing and selling medicines with psychotropic ingredients like Tramadol and Alprazolam, or high doses of Tapentadol Hydrochloride. One firm faced action for manufacturing unlicensed Ayurvedic medicine containing allopathic ingredients, and another for operating without a license.
