Guard Punished for Hitting Stray Dog
7 Feb
Summary
- A security guard was made to apologize and do sit-ups.
- The guard allegedly hit a stray dog that had bitten his son.
- An animal activist intervened and reported the guard.

An incident at Vadale pond in Panvel on the evening of February 2 saw a security guard, Govind Shinde, being confronted by citizens and an animal activist for striking a stray dog with a wooden baton. A video of the confrontation went viral.
The activist, identified as Vijay Rangare, made Shinde perform sit-ups and publicly swear never to harm animals again. Shinde stated the dog had previously bitten his son, and he was attempting to prevent further incidents at the public pond.
However, Rangare countered that local residents described the dog as gentle and non-aggressive. Shinde subsequently filed a police complaint against Rangare for humiliation, leading to a non-cognisable offense. Rangare has stated he will file an FIR against Shinde for animal cruelty and ensured the injured dog received veterinary treatment.
