15 Feb
Summary
- Occult items found near a three-year-old's disturbed grave.
- Villagers discovered a lit lamp, lemon, and raw meat at the site.
- Chhattisgarh has a high number of superstition-related crimes.

In Mahudbi village, Chhattisgarh, a disturbing incident has emerged concerning the grave of a three-year-old girl. Piya Sahu, who passed away three months ago, was buried in a local burial ground. Recently, a farmer discovered occult items near her grave, including a lit lamp, rice grains, a sliced lemon, and raw meat.
The fresh digging at the grave site suggests an attempt at an occult ritual or exhumation, intensifying fear and anger among the villagers. The child's father has formally requested an investigation and excavation to ensure his daughter's remains have not been tampered with.
Authorities have deployed a heavy police presence and confirmed a formal complaint has been filed. A grave excavation is planned pending permission from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. This event underscores the persistent issue of superstition-driven crimes in Chhattisgarh, a state that has historically reported a high number of witchcraft-related cases. Between January 2020 and June 2024, 54 murders linked to superstition were recorded.
Despite the existence of the Witchcraft Atrocities (Prevention) Act of 2005, such incidents continue to occur, reflecting a deep-seated struggle against harmful traditional beliefs within the region.
