A house fire in Grangetown on August 26 tragically resulted in the deaths of a seven-year-old girl, Valentina Foster, and her 34-year-old aunt, Natalie McDonald.
An inquest opening revealed that both victims died from the effects of fire. Prior to the Cleveland Fire Brigade's arrival, members of the public bravely attempted to rescue those trapped inside the burning property.
Valentina was recovered from the house and later pronounced deceased at James Cook University Hospital. Natalie McDonald died at the scene. Their deaths have prompted criminal proceedings.
Jaden Wright, 23, has been charged with two counts of murder and other offences related to injuries sustained by others in the blaze. He has appeared at Teesside Crown Court. The family of Natalie McDonald remembered her as a bright, bubbly, and beloved individual, while Valentina's family expressed their overwhelming sadness at the loss of their deeply loved daughter.
