Grandson Charged in Brutal New Year's Day Beating Death

Joshua Philip Day, 28, a West Covina resident, now faces charges of murder and elder abuse with great bodily injury. Prosecutors allege that Day violently assaulted his grandparents, Priscilla Sesanto, 74, and Philip Sesanto, 77, inside their home on New Year's Day. The couple had been married for over 50 years.
The attack resulted in severe injuries to both victims. Priscilla Sesanto fell into a coma and tragically died on January 2, while Philip Sesanto survived but required extensive medical care for his serious injuries. Neighbors called 911, leading to the arrival of paramedics and law enforcement.
Day was apprehended by officers within hours of the assault and has been denied bail. His arraignment was scheduled for January 14. If convicted as charged, he faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life, plus an additional nine years in state prison.
