Four men have been handed life sentences for the murder of Jacqueline Rutter, a 53-year-old grandmother of five, who was fatally shot on her doorstep. The incident occurred on October 30, 2022, in Moreton, Merseyside, as a result of a revenge attack by a drug gang. The gang sought retribution after Ms. Rutter's sons reportedly stole a mobile phone used for drug sales.
James Byrne received a minimum of 40 years, Simon Allen a minimum of 28 years, and David Harrison a minimum of 26 years for their roles in the murder. Barrie Glynn was sentenced to 30 years for manslaughter and related offenses. The court heard that Byrne played a leading role in the planning of the revenge attack, aiming to avoid losing face after the theft of the drug phone.
