Grandfather Jailed 20 Years for Raping Granddaughter

In Aligarh, a 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of his granddaughter in 2025. The conviction was secured based on the victim's testimony in the Pocso court. The incident took place on the evening of December 3, 2025, when the then 11-year-old survivor was at home with her younger sisters.

The survivor recounted that the accused entered her room and assaulted her. The following day, she confided in her aunt, who then filed a complaint with the local police. Medical examinations confirmed the rape, and a forensic report found semen on the convict's undergarments. The court established the survivor's age using school records, confirming she was a minor.

During the trial, the defense claimed false implication due to a monetary dispute, but offered no supporting evidence. The additional sessions judge convicted the accused under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and the BNS, ordering the Rs 50,000 fine as compensation to the victim. The court highlighted the profound physical and psychological effects on survivors and the necessity of severe penalties to deter such offenses.
