On Monday, a tragic incident unfolded in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly drowned his younger sister in a canal over her love affair. According to the police, the accused, Aditya Yadav, a resident of Bhaurabari village, killed his 18-year-old sister, Nitya, by holding her underwater in the Dhamina canal.
After the incident, Aditya placed Nitya's body in a nearby paddy field and then walked to the Campierganj police station, where he confessed to the crime. During questioning, Aditya told the police that his sister was in a relationship with a local youth, and he had repeatedly warned her about it. On the day of the incident, Aditya confronted Nitya after learning that she had spent the previous night with the boy. An argument ensued near the canal, and in a fit of anger, Aditya allegedly assaulted and drowned his sister.
The police said that Aditya sat by the canal for nearly an hour before surrendering. The body was later recovered and sent for a postmortem examination at the BRD Medical College. The Campierganj SHO, Rakesh Roshan, stated that the accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of Nitya's death.
