A dramatic escape attempt occurred at the Gopalganj civil court on Thursday when two individuals arrested for liquor smuggling slipped out of police custody. The accused, Raja Pandey and Dhoni Kunwar, were being presented before a special excise court following their apprehension on Wednesday. They were caught transporting 10 cartons of liquor each.
Taking advantage of a security lapse and crowd, the duo managed to break free from their handcuffs and flee the court premises. A swift police response led to the immediate re-arrest of Raja Pandey near Minj Stadium Road. However, Dhoni Kunwar remains at large, with excise officials conducting extensive searches across various locations.
An inquiry has been initiated to investigate the security breach that facilitated the escape. Authorities are intensifying efforts, including raids on suspected hideouts and monitoring transportation hubs, to apprehend the absconding smuggler.
