In Madiaon, a 17-year-old girl was tragically murdered, with her body subsequently found in the Gomti River. Police have arrested the victim's uncle, who had married her aunt approximately eighteen months prior. The teenager, orphaned, resided with her aunt and brother.
The accused claimed to have fallen from a ladder, subsequently taking the girl with him under the pretense of seeking medicine. He later reported to the victim's brother that they were intercepted by unidentified men who abducted the girl. However, CCTV footage and his intoxicated state raised police suspicion, leading to his arrest.
Searches along the riverbank uncovered the victim's belongings. An SDRF team was involved in locating the body near a pontoon bridge. An autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death, and the uncle has been booked on charges of rape and murder, with investigations ongoing.
