Goat Cruelty Video Sparks Outrage, Council Action
1 Apr
Summary
- Video shows goats dragged by horns and hauled in distress.
- Welfare groups reported the incident to the local council.
- Council investigation concluded with required actions for owner.

Shocking footage has emerged showing goats being dragged and handled by their horns, prompting significant backlash against Bournemouth Goats. The video, captured in December 2025, depicts handlers hauling lame goats, with one appearing to bleat in distress. Welfare groups Dorset Animal Action and Animal Aid reported the alleged abuse to BCP Council.
Following the public outcry, Bournemouth Goats' owner, Marc Jackson, withdrew from an Easter event. He cited backlash and logistical issues related to transporting the animals. The business, which manages a herd of 50 goats for vegetation management on Southbourne cliffs, has gained popularity with tourists.
BCP Council confirmed its investigation concluded, stating it "take[s] concerns around animal welfare extremely seriously." The license holder was provided with actions including maintaining welfare standards and completing risk assessments. As a result, Bournemouth Goats will not attend the Southbourne Green event or other public gatherings. The council noted that the goats' general condition had not been a prior concern.
