An 83-year-old man in Goa was allegedly subjected to brutal physical assault by his son and daughter-in-law, an incident captured on video that subsequently emerged on social media. The distressing footage purportedly shows the elderly victim, Loyala Souza, being slapped, struck with slippers, and verbally threatened.
Colva police took action after a complaint from Crisostomo Mariano Soares, who shared the video, leading to the arrest of Isidoreo Souza on Friday evening. He faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. His wife, Irene Gonsalves, has also been implicated in the assault but was not arrested at the time of the case filing, adhering to Supreme Court guidelines.
The complaint detailed that the video not only depicted physical violence but also suggested wrongful restraint and confinement, with the victim appearing unable to move freely. Both Isidoreo and Irene are alleged to have abused and humiliated Loyala in the clip, causing him bodily injuries.
