3 May
Summary
- Victim placed a harrowing 911 call detailing her ex-boyfriend's pursuit.
- Ex-boyfriend tracked victim using Apple AirTags before the murder.
- Lawsuit alleges police failures contributed to the preventable death.

Gloria Choi tragically lost her life on January 2, 2022, after placing a desperate 911 call reporting her ex-boyfriend, Billy Rickman, was following and had hit her car. The call captured her terror as shots were fired, leading to her death.
Rickman's obsessive behavior included using Apple AirTags to track Choi. He had a history of alleged abuse, with one victim reporting he was her trafficker in 2005. Despite multiple violations of a no-contact order and clear evidence of stalking, Choi's family's attorney claims law enforcement mishandled the case.
Rickman was eventually arrested in California on January 6, 2022, and charged with aggravated murder. He was found guilty by a jury in November 2023 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Choi's family against the city of Lakewood and its police department remained unresolved as of May 2026.
