Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are currently on trial in Glasgow for the alleged murder of 15-year-old Amen Teklay. The incident occurred in the St George's Cross area on March 5, 2025. Prosecutors claim the masked youths attacked Amen with a sword and a frying pan, leading to injuries that proved fatal on Clarendon Street.
Court proceedings revealed that the alleged murder followed earlier confrontations. One of the 16-year-old accused faces additional charges, including a previous assault on Amen Teklay with a sword and metal barrier, and attempting to pervert the course of justice by disposing of clothing and the weapon.
The 16-year-old's defense has entered a special plea of self-defense, asserting Amen Teklay initiated the attack with a bladed weapon. The trial, which began with opening remarks to the jury, is expected to last until July.
