A 10-year-old girl, Alisa Gates, suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot in the side of her family's car in San Antonio, Texas, on January 30, 2026. The incident occurred as the family was driving to school. Police state that suspect Bryan Arceo allegedly backed out of a driveway aggressively, and when another driver honked, he fired a gun toward the victim's vehicle.
Alisa was in the backseat and was hit by the bullet. Her father, Jason Gates, described the terrifying moments after the shooting, noting they smelled gunpowder before realizing their daughter was wounded. They stopped the car and called for help. The family managed to record the suspect's license plate and a description of the driver.
Authorities responded to the incident, and Arceo was apprehended at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault and endangering a child. An affidavit revealed Arceo's ex-wife was in the vehicle and witnessed the shooting, reporting that she heard a pop and saw him fire at the family's van. Alisa has since undergone surgery and is reportedly "doing great" in her recovery, though the family is deeply affected by the event.
