16 Aug
Summary
- Man receives life sentence for killing his uncle with a pistol.
- Eyewitness testimony from father and cousin proved guilt.
- Conviction occurred five years after the 2019 incident.

An additional district and sessions court in Ghaziabad has handed down a life sentence to a man for fatally shooting his uncle with an illegal pistol in 2019. The conviction, delivered recently, was based on compelling eyewitness testimony from the victim's son and the accused's father, who were present at the scene.
The incident stemmed from a physical altercation at the victim's home following a summons from the accused. During the dispute, the accused allegedly fired a pistol, killing his father. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival, while the assailant fled.
The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. The accused was arrested shortly after, and the murder weapon was recovered. The prosecution presented 12 witnesses, including two key eyewitnesses, to establish the facts of the case.
Despite defense arguments regarding potential procedural flaws in the investigation, the judge cited Supreme Court precedent, stating that minor irregularities do not invalidate a prosecution case if the evidence is otherwise reliable and convincing. The court found the oral and documentary evidence consistent.
