A special POCSO court in Ghaziabad has sentenced a 31-year-old man to a decade in prison for the abduction and rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2015. The crime resulted in the victim's pregnancy.
His 51-year-old brother-in-law was also sentenced to seven years imprisonment for aiding the primary accused and later assaulting the minor. The court mandated that the fines imposed on both convicts be provided to the legal guardian of the victim for her rehabilitation.
The mother of the victim had filed a complaint in September 2015, leading to an FIR against several individuals. Charges were framed under IPC and POCSO Act sections. The main accused, who argued the girl was not a minor and their union was consensual, was found to be incorrect as the victim was indeed 13 at the time.
