A woman from Gray, Georgia, Tiffany Alayn Watson, age 39, has been arrested and is facing charges for allegedly defrauding the Riverside United Methodist Church out of $500,000. Watson was employed by the church as an administrator and co-director of its children's center at the time of the alleged offenses.
The South Georgia United Methodist Conference initiated an inquiry into the church's financial solvency. After initial attempts to clarify the church's financial operations were unsuccessful, conference leaders engaged a forensic accountant. This investigation uncovered suspicious and fraudulent activities linked to the church's bank accounts.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office was subsequently notified. Their investigation revealed financial irregularities dating as far back as 2022, even continuing into 2025 when the church was reportedly closed. Authorities allege Watson misused $500,000 of church funds without authorization for personal benefit and established a criminal enterprise related to the theft.
Watson was taken into custody following an interview with investigators and is currently being held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. The investigation remains active, and further charges are possible.
